Baking Soda & Vinegar

A combination of baking soda and vinegar is effective for clearing minor clogs caused by soap scum, grease, or hair. Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a cup of white vinegar. Let it sit for 15-30 minutes, then flush with hot water. The fizzing reaction can help loosen minor blockages.

Use a Plunger

Plungers are ideal for clearing clogs in bathroom sinks, kitchen sinks, bathtubs, and toilets. Place the plunger over the drain opening, ensuring a good seal. Plunge forcefully and repeatedly for a minute or two. The up-and-down thrusts can help dislodge the blockage. Just be sure to use the right plunger for the clogged drain. If it’s a clogged toilet, use a flange plunger, which is designed to create a tight seal in the toilet bowl.

Coat Hanger

For clogs in the first 5cm to 10cm of the drain, a coat hanger can act as a makeshift drain snake. Straighten a wire coat hanger and create a small hook at the end. Carefully insert the hook into the drain and try to snag the clog. After you’ve removed the clog, flush the drain with hot water to clear any loose debris.

Grab the Drain Snake

If you’re experiencing tougher clogs, a drain snake can save the day. Insert the snake into the drain and turn the handle to feed the cable down the pipe. The cable can break up and remove the blockage. A drain snake is fairly easy to use, but it can damage your pipes if you use the tool incorrectly.
